01 / The story
A different way to look at Sumba.
Not simply a destination to visit, but an island to explore — with more of its places, people and traditions in the story.
There are still places in the world that feel like they belong to themselves. Sumba is one of them.
An island in eastern Indonesia, east of Bali and Lombok, Sumba is a place with a raw spirit: vast golden savannas meet turquoise seas, horses roam open hills, and the coastline houses hidden beaches and surf breaks far from crowds.
Sumba.travel is an independent digital guide to the island, bringing together nature, culture, food, accommodation, activities, local businesses and practical travel information.
The platform also explores the traditions and communities that give Sumba its distinctive identity — from Marapu culture and megalithic villages to its famous handwoven ikat.
As more people discover Sumba, the ambition is not to change the island; it is to help the world discover what is already there, while giving local businesses, communities, landscapes and traditions a place in the story.
